In 1792, a group of prominent citizens formed the Insurance Company of North America (INA) after meeting in Philadelphia’s Independence Hall. In 1865, Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG) was incorporated. These two companies quickly became and remained forerunners in the annuity and insurance industry. Then, in 1982, the two companies merged and became CIGNA, combining the initials of the original companies and becoming one of the leading providers of healthcare benefits in America.
Today, CIGNA health insurance products are available in all 50 states plus some international regions, but coverage varies by state. Coverage is primarily offered through employers as group health insurance coverage.
CIGNA has entered the National Medicare Advantage market with plans available in 1,512 counties of 28 states (AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, LA, MA, ME, MO, NC, NH, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA and WV.
CIGNA offers competitive products including many with $0 premium, some with RX coverage through the gap and low co-pays. Dental coverage is a big plus and online enrollment is available. The Part D plan is below the benchmark premium in most states.
